The following images are from a trip Lexy and I took to Ichthyosaur Park
in Central Nevada. Along the way we stumbled upon Grimes Point Archeological
Site where we found many ancient Indian Petroglyphs. They are believed to
date anywhere from 500 - 7000 years ago. Grimes Point is located about 8
miles east of Fallon NV on Hwy 50. There were also some really neat caves
that were used for shelter and storage many years ago by native Indians.
Much of this area was underwater when the Ancient Lake Lahontan covered much of
Nevada.
Ichthyosaur Park has a large collection of fossils from the Ancient
Ichthyosaurs that once roamed the seas covering most of Nevada. They date
back over 225 million years ago..... even before the age of dinosaurs.
These creatures grew up to 50 feet long and were more than capable of eating
just about anything. These were the T-Rex of the ancient marine world.
This trip was nostalgic for me since my Grandparents, Howard and Lenora
Espin took my brother Marc and I here back in the late 60's. Lexy and I
had a great time. Lexy got a big kick out of seeing pictures of Marc and I
at the same spot (in front of the big replica of the Ichthyosaurus).

Interesting petroglyph. |
This one was fairly common here. |

Who can unravel the mystery? |
Here's a big one. |

This cave is a lot deeper than the picture
implies. |
Another cave, the picture doesn't do it
justice. |
